I haven’t seen a lot of coverage of Joe McKnight, so I wanted to quick blog it here to raise awareness. Perhaps everyone is getting a bit tired and worn-down by racist police tactics and I’m fearful that racism in the Trump age is getting normalized.
A road-rage incident by a white guy in LA (where naturally he carries his automatic piece around with him everywhere he goes) shot dead Joe McKnight, a former NFL player, in cold blood on the side of the road. The perpetrator has a history of road rage incidents and called the cops, waited for them to arrive, and he was then released. Yes, released.
I’m sure he’s claiming that he felt threatened by the big black man and so he’ll claim “Stand Your Ground” defense. And I’m sure he’ll win his case, if he’s ever even arrested at all. It’s pretty clear that’s why the sheriff felt no obligation to arrest him. He would have been hammered by the NRA and conservatives if he had arrested the nice crazy white dude.
Folks … We need to work harder to stop the out-of-control gun culture that we’ve allowed to flourish in our country under whack-a-doodle NRA control and Republican laws. This has to stop. NOW>
